What is aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy, like ayurveda, is a holistic science that has been used as a healing treatment for centuries. Natural plant extracts are used to promote health and well-being by using aromatic essential oils medicinally to improve the health of the body, mind, and spirit.

How does aromatherapy work?

The sense of smell is profound as it has the ability to connect to memories, desires and instincts. Aromatherapy integrates the powerful molecules of essential oils to enhance emotions, change pathways and balance the mind. The essential oils are either applied topically or used aromatically.

Topical application - when applied topically the essential oils are absorbed through the skin. An example of this would be using a peppermint oil drops in a bath to ease sore muscles or applying lavender oil during a calming massage .
Aromatic - when inhaled the aromatic molecules pass through the olfactory and stimulate areas of your limbic system, which is a part of your brain that plays a role in emotions, behaviors, sense of smell and long-term memory.
